Welcome back to the second week of Blogging Through the Alphabet! I am so glad to be here with my co-hosts DaLynn from Biblical Womanhood and Kirsten from DoodleMom’s Homeschooling Life. We are working on the Letter B this week, and following along with my book theme, I want to share with you some of our favorite Berenstain Bears books!
Have you ever noticed that these fun little books teach a lot! Each one of these books, no matter which one you pick up, you will walk away with a lesson to talk with your kids about. We find out in these books that the Bear Family is not perfect and we are able to relate to them, making learning the lessons that much easier!
What happens when Mama Bear is out of the house and something gets broken? Do the bear cubs tell the truth, or do they make up a lie? What happens when they do what they do? Do they feel good, or are they haunted by the choice they made? This book is one of our favorites on teaching about telling the truth in the house.
This book has been in my life since I was growing up. This is how I look at stranger danger even now as an adult! Because of this, we have two, yes TWO copies of this book in our house and they are both worn from all the reading of them. Looking at strangers like apples can teach us a lot. Just because the apple looks good on the outside doesn’t mean that it will look that way on the inside. The same goes the other way, a few bruises on the outside doesn’t mean that the inside is bad.
Do you have kids, or dads, in the house that love their screens? Maybe they love them a little too much. While this book talks about the TV, we have been able to relate this to more screens than just the TV. When the kids listen to a book that sounds like something they do, they start to feel bad, the guilt sinks in. But this time, I liked it! I pull this book out when I notice the kids, or even me, spending too much time behind a screen!
With Halloween fast approaching, I love to pull this book off the shelf. This is another one that I remember from my childhood! There are so many things happening on Halloween, and so many things that look one way, but are really another. This book is based on the idea that appearances can be deceiving. With all the scary that is out there on Halloween night, this is a great preparation for the night!
This is my FAVORITE book! I have read this book to my kids so many times, I almost have it all memorized. When we are in the store and I notice my bear cubs getting the gimmies, all I need to do is ask, “Are you getting a case of the gimmies?” This shuts down any fight or tantrum that may come up. This one book has saved me many arguments in the store!
Do you have any favorite Berenstain Bear books in your house?
I know that my button is not working right now…If you could just make sure to link back to this page, I will keep trying to make this silly button happen! (Oh, and if you have any tips for me, I am open to try them out!)
