Do you want a program to help teach your kids how to type? Not this one handed, take an hour to write something type. I mean, really type? In the world we have in front of us, our kids are going to need to know how to type. They need to learn how to type effectively and quickly…it is just the way it is. So, how do you teach them how to type? Do you just tell them to, or buy a boring, made for adults program? Do you buy an expensive program that looks nice and frilly, only to find out it doesn't teach the kids how to do anything? Why not find a program that encourages your kids to type and even uses finger guides to help them keep their fingers positioned on the home keys instead of all over the keyboard? Well, I have that program for you!
Keyboard Classroom is a typing program that works on using muscle memory to help with the typing process. The use of the finger guides will help your child(ren) to keep those fingers working and touch typing without falling into issues with the most common errors (I have those…I found out when I tried to use the finger guides!). Moe Man has a hard time with any kind of memory due to his "specialness", but right away he was learning where the keys were and was able to get the keystrokes down wonderfully.
The first thing I noticed about this program, other than the finger guides, was that this was not a games type of program. They have the kids focus on their keystrokes and earn the chance to play games, not play games with no focus on the actual typing. There are goals to reach, and upon reaching those goals, the students are able to earn coins for the games, and advance their ranking. This was fun for Moe Man because he is always looking to "compete" and is at the age where he is looking more into the military as a boy…
There are different options for ordering. You can order the single user license for $39.95 with FREE finger guides, or the family license for up to 5 users for $49.95 with one FREE set of finger guides. The finger guides do not work on all keyboards, for example, I could not make them work on the laptop (it is not recommended to use a laptop for this program anyway) but they fit just fine on the desktop keyboard we have. If you need more than just one set of finger guides, they sell for $15.
Moe Man has had fun with this program. He is remembering where the keys are and where his fingers need to be. I am watching him improve daily! He is able to practice first before being timed and he loves that. The confidence this is building in him is wonderful! This is a skill that will need to be learned for use in his future no matter what he chooses to be, so why not pick a program that he has fun AND learns with!
