We love our choice of homeschooling. There are tough days, but you have those no matter what. I have been asked a few times about how to get started with homeschooling. I figured I would share with you my top 5 favorite resources for the “newbie” homeschooler.
5. Getting Started Homeschooling from Inner Child Learning
This website has 10 of their blog posts about homeschooling put together in one location. They cover everything from the pros and cons to daily schedules and the homeschool favorite, socialization!
4. How to Start Homeschooling from Homegrown Learners
Here is a post with a roundup of resources (like this one)! I figured I would link to this instead of relisting all that she had already done.
3. Beginning Homeschooling FAQs from MACHE.org (Minnesota Association of Christian Home Educators)
Since we live in Minnesota, I have found this website to be extremely helpful when I have questions. Not only that, but they have all the forms I need when it comes time to file each year. If you are in Minnesota, check this out!
2. Homeschooling: Getting Started from HSLDA
This is a great article that answers a lot of questions you may have as a new homeschooler. But the main site also has all the laws for all the states. This whole website is a great one to look at if you are interesting in homeschooling, and is one I go back to often myself.
1. God
My number one resource for our choice to homeschool, was to pray about it. Things weren’t going right in public school, and so I prayed. I asked for help deciding. This is one area where I have felt the LORD talking quite loudly to me. I couldn’t ignore it and have loved every minute since listening to that call.
I hope this helps some of you new homeschoolers and answers questions for those of you thinking about homeschooling. All you veteran homeschoolers, what are some additional resources can/would you give to those asking for them?
