Growing up, I always had books read aloud to me. This is part of the reason that I love to share books with my kids. It is also why I like to share those book that we love with you. I am glad that you have joined myself, Kirsten from DoodleMom and DaLynn from Biblical Womanhood, for another week of Blogging Through the Alphabet.
This week, we are on the letter R. Wow, have we really made it that far already!? This week I want to share a book that I remember my mom reading aloud to my brother and me. She would sit in the hallway between our two rooms at bedtime and read a chapter or more if we begged her enough. This book that I remember so fondly was Redwall by Brian Jacques.
Redwall is the story of the Redwall Abbey mice, yes, I said mice. These mice have to defend themselves against Cluny the Scrouge, a rat and his army. They have no idea how to do this, but they know that if they had the sword of Martin the Warrior, they would be able to defend themselves adequately. But how to get that sword?
A young mouse named Matthias may be the key to solving this problem. But what can a young mouse do? Especially one with little experience when it comes to the rats? But young Matthias, the favorite character of mine and now my kids, might just be the hero everyone is looking for.
This book is filled with fun, adventure, and mischief. The girls and the boys loved it. Finding one like that can be hard, but knowing that both my brother and I loved it growing up, gave me some assurance. Not only that, but many other books go along with this in a series. I haven’t yet read all of them, but it is going to be a goal to do that with my kids.
Have you read Redwall yet? Have you read the other books that go with it? I would love to hear about which is your favorite in the comments!
