This is a review post. I received this item in exchange for my honest review. Below you will find just that, my honest review.
Imagine finding a hidden village within walking distance of your own. Now imagine that the people of your village do not believe you that there is another village nearby. And the people of this hidden village are suffering with little food and insufficient clothing and housing. What would you do? How would you make people believe you?
These are the problems that Manju had to deal with in The Hidden Village by Bonnie Rose Hudson. In this short, 60-page book, your child will see how one boy took on the challenge of trying to save a hidden village when no one else would listen.
We are drawn into the story with the simple way that it is written. We could connect with the main character, Manju, immediately. Now, if the words weren’t enough to grab us, the pictures sure did!
There are color pictures throughout the book, and when there isn’t a picture, there are doodles, as we like to call them. The pages are not boring, they are simple and inviting to even the most reluctant reader.
The Hidden Village is geared for ages 6-7, but my 9-year-old was sucked right into this faith filled story. I “made” him read the first chapter while we were waiting for his doctor’s appointment. By the time we were called back into the room, he was 3 chapters in and upset that we had to set it down. Needless to say, he was glad we had a long drive home!
We followed Manju as he found a village no one knew about. His family didn’t believe him, and he struggled with ways to help this village. How could he make sure they had enough food? How would he get them the warm clothing and blankets they needed? What could this one little boy do to save a whole village? We find out at the end of the book, what can really happen!
If your child feels like they are just a small child who can not help God in His plan, this is a book you need. If you want your child to always know that they are capable of so much more than they know, this is the book you need. If you have kids in your house, you need this book in your house!
