Being a member of the Homeschool Review Crew has brought a lot of different products from different companies into our house we never would have thought about before. One of those companies is The Pencil Grip, Inc. While we have fallen in love with their Kwik Stix and Thin Stix, this time we had the chance to use The Ultra Safe Safety Scissors and The 3 Step Pencil Grip Training Kit.
Having little hands in the house that want to do everything like the big kids, it can be scary when they pick up the scissors to start cutting paper. I never want to limit their creative minds, but when it comes to scissors, I always worry. Will they cut their fingers, or other things that are not meant to be cut? And if I find scissors that won’t cut their fingers, will they actually cut the paper without frustration?
This has been taken care of with The Ultra Safe Safety Scissors! These scissors are sharp, not dull! They slice through the paper smoothly and without worry, but they also have a protective safety shield that helps protect fingers when cutting. Little Miss had a lot of fun using these when cutting. I knew that fingers were safe, and even let Baby Girl give her hand a try at cutting!
Handwriting is an important skill to have, but holding the pencil correctly is a must before the focus of handwriting. The 3 Step Pencil Grip Training Kit has been wonderful for out house. We have writers in all stages at our house. It is always my goal to make sure they know how to hold their pencil, but I don’t want to constantly hover over them while they write. That is where these grips come in. They are able to keep the little fingers where they need to be!
There are three stages of learning to grip your pencil, the first grip has a “superhero cape” to help keep the little fingers in where they need to be. Baby Girl uses this grip when she wants to play school with us. The second grip is the Pinch Grip. I have been using this with Little Miss. She basically knows her grip, but there is still just a little cape left to prevent her fingers from slipping. Finally, the Pencil Grip. This one is being used by Ray Ray to enforce his grip, but Daddy also steals this one (good thing I bought more!) to help him grip easier during his recovery. These grips are able to work on most writing devices, yes, Daddy puts his on his stylus at times as well!
