1st Grade 2014 Plans

So Ray Ray is my big first grader this year. Last year we did a lot of playing and learning through the playing. This year we are taking is a little further and actually focusing on the school more than play since Ray Ray is showing me he wants to.

Our main core for Ray Ray is using Five in a Row Volumes 1 and 2! There is so much fun to be had and adding in some fun unit studies makes it even more fun. FIAR is such a fun way to build up the school topics for kids and makes it so much fun to do school!

Math, when we aren’t doing FIAR math is going to be Math Mammoth Grade 1. I love Math Mammoth! And Ray Ray has fallen in love with it over the last few weeks, so we are going to keep using it!

English and Handwriting will be Logic of English Foundations Level A. We started this as a review item for the Schoolhouse Crew Review Team, and really do love it that much that we are going to be continuing it until we are done! Hopefully we will be able to move on to Level B after this!

Spelling is going to be Spelling You See Jack and Jill. This is another review item we fell in love with. We did take a small break, but can’t wait to get back into this.

Geography/History is going to be Knowledge Quest A Child’s Geography: Explore His World. I love A Child’s Geography. This is a fun story based way to introduce a child to the world around them.

And for fun…we are going to be using Essential Skills Advantage. Ray Ray loves this program! We can’t wait to tell you more about this in an upcoming review!

So, this is what Ray Ray will be doing this year. We may add things, or take some away…but that is the joy of homeschooling! We can change what needs changing!

What are you doing with your 1st graders this year? I would love to hear about your plans!
