Support. What does that word mean to you? I hear support and I instantly think of my husband.
Without him, I would not be able to homeschool or blog! He is what makes this all possible! I am able to work on lesson plans or anything else (like some mommy alone time) with his help and support with the kids. when it comes to homeschooling, support from your spouse is very much needed!
Now, my hubby isn't the only one who gives me support. I have had support from my whole extended family. When the hubby is on the road driving truck, I am able to lean on anyone else. I can still find a way to make it to the store by myself, or even just sit and clean the house by myself! Knowing that others are on my side make it so much more fun to spend the time with the kids and teach them their school lessons.
So, my hubby and my family, they are awesome support systems. But a homeschool mom needs more than just that at times. She needs other homeschool moms. When you are new to homeschooling, there are so many questions. Where do you start, what do you need to do and how do you do it? Other moms who have been there and done that. I started by looking to homeschool mom bloggers. I loved reading their stories and I wanted to just keep track of mine.
After a year of blogging, I have found many new homeschool mom friends. They are my "in the computer" friends…but they have answered so many questions that I have had and supported me when I didn't know what I was doing. Finding support through different Facebook groups and than branching out from there. It is funny at times to look back a year and see all that has changed in our lives.
Without the support of my husband, family, friends and homeschool mom friends, I would not be able to continue doing what I do every day. That is why I feel that support is one of the five essentials of homeschooling. It is not a physical object, or place you can go…you can reach out and hold it…but you can feel it and it is needed!
I hope all you homeschoolers out there have found some support to help you on your way. Where did you find yours at? Do you agree that support is just as important for homeschooling as curriculum?
