Kinder Cottage Publishing ~ A Schoolhouse Crew Review

Peter Rabbit has some of the best stories…and lessons to learn. We have been blessed to be able to read two of Kinder Cottage Publishing’s Peter Rabbit stories. Little Miss picked out Peter Rabbit’s Christmas and Ray Ray picked out Peter Rabbit’s Easter. We apparently like the holidays in our house!

Kinder Cottage Publishing was started in 2012 by Howard and his wife Ann. They have a goal of creating and offering products that parents can use to educate their children with.

Little Miss was so excited to be able to pick out Peter Rabbit’s Christmas. This is the hardback adaption of the 1917 story written by Duff Graham and published by the Henry Altemus Company. This is the third of ten in the American Peter Rabbit series (different author same characters). Peter Rabbit was up to his fun again in this book. After Old Mother Rabbit went into town, Peter went out to explore. When he heard the sleigh bells, he was delighted to take a ride. After meeting Santa Claus and being sent home with presents, Peter is happy to announce that for once he didn’t get into trouble!

Ray Ray picked out Peter Rabbit’s Easter. Once again Peter is up to his adventures. Only this time, it is spring and he is heading to Farmer McGregor’s fields. After being chased into town and almost sold at the toy store, Peter is brought back home by a little girl and has gifts for his mother and sisters. This was another hardback adaption of the original 1921 book also written by Duff Graham and published by the Henry Altemus Company. This is the sixth of ten in the American Peter Rabbit series.

The day we got these books in the mail was a tough day for us…we had been hit by a flu bug of some sorts and were stuck laying around. There was no school for us. But when the books came, we started reading them right away! What better way to help cure the flu, than to cuddle and read! But that hasn’t been the only day we read them. We love to pull these out at any time and enjoy them together. Honestly, who could get tired of little Peter Rabbit? Even though each of the little ones picked out “their” Peter Rabbit book, everyone enjoys both of them.

I am in love with these books. I loved listening to Peter Rabbit growing up, and I love reading Peter Rabbit now that I have kids. We enjoyed the pictures and lessons in these stories. I agree with the age of 3-9 for these books and have no complaints of the price of $4.00 each (they are 5×7 hardbacks and 50+ pages each!) Both Ray Ray and Little Miss were willing to sit through the whole story more than once. They loved the fact that the Peter was a rabbit and look at the neighborhood rabbits in a new way now. I recommend these books to anyone with young children. All kids should know about Peter Rabbit and these books are perfect! Right now if you use the code TOS you can get 20% off at Kinder Cottage Publishing.

You heard me mention that there are ten books in this series…but I only reviewed two of them. Check out these other ladies and what they have to say about the rest of the books!

Navigating the Explosion – You Are Not Alone ~ Book Review

Are you a foster mom? Are you an adoptive mom? Have you ever thought of being either of those? Did you answer yes to any of those questions? If you did, I have the book you NEED to read! Allison Schumm has taken her time to compile letters from moms who have been there and done that in her book Navigating the Explosion – You Are Not Alone.

Allison is no stranger to the world of ups and downs and more ups that are involved in the foster and adoption process. She is a busy mom of 14 beautiful blessings ranging from 18 to 1 year old. She married her knight in shining armor in of May 2004 and they started the first step in their adoption journey in the end of 2005 just 18 months after they were married. Jonathan and Allison are vocal advocates for adoption, they believe that God places the lonely in families and keeping siblings together is the best.

Moe Man is our adoption story. We hadn't planned on fostering or adopting. It wasn't something we had even talked about. But when you get the phone call that you are need in a kinship care situation, you don't even think twice about what you need to do. We have been through almost everything the letters in this book talk about. We started with just fostering Moe Man, hoping he would have that moment of going "home" again. When that wasn't an option…we went forward with the adoption process. This was something that was not chosen by us, but by God alone, and we wouldn't change it for the world!

The letters that Allison has compiled speak right to your heart. They are the ones that you are able to read and say, yes that is exactly how I feel right now! There are six simple chapters in this book that describe the "stages" of the foster/adoption process. They are The Call, The Wait, The Honeymoon, The Groove, The Future and The Others. Allison doesn't just put a whole bunch of letters together, she takes her time and writes to you from her heart about each stage. I love when you feel like you are "alone" and you pick up this book and realize just how not alone you really are.

I am so thankful to the LORD for giving me a chance to read this book. I was given this opportunity at just the right time in my life. This book is highly recommended by me to all of you that are anywhere in the process…even if you are "done", it still touches you and makes you cry. It is a comfort to read that others have been there and felt that same thing. We are not alone in our journey and never will be!

I really hope you will all take a moment to go and show your love to Allison. She is on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and G+. She also has a blog over at Schumm Explosion. You can get your own copy of her book over at her Esty store for $4.99. Well worth every penny!!

Don't believe me?? Really?? 🙂 Check out what these other reviewers have to say about this book!!

Tales of the Wovlen: The Dragon’s Son ~Book Review~

"After the brutal massacre in his village, a broken, grieving boy chooses to live with a golden dragon in the wild rather than go to the mountains to be with his own people. If only he had known then what that simple choice meant… Thirteen years later, Keegan, no longer a boy, learns that his younger sister survived the massacre and so sets off to be reunited with her. When Keegan accidentally interrupts a plot against a princess, what should have been a fairly simple trip turns into a complicated struggle for survival. A mysterious elder appears, full of wit and riddle. Mythical monsters shed their fictional skin and hungrily pursue Keegan and his dragon. Haunting nightmares begin to tear at his mind. As he continues on his quest to be reunited with his sister, Keegan is only just beginning to understand what it means to be The Dragons Son."

Are you looking for a fantasy book where the main character does not use magic to win his battles? A book where they leaving you wanting more? A book for the family but especially for teens? Than I have just the thing for you!

Kathryn Fogleman has written a fantasy book that grabs you from the very beginning with the prologue and keeps you wanting more when you reach the last page. Which is just fine since this is the first in her first series! We used this book as a read aloud through out the day and Moe Man fell in love with it! He loved this book so much that when Little Miss started getting a little loud he had to tell her "Shh, you're interrupting the show!" However, the T.V. was not on at the time, so the only "show" was the book I was reading 🙂

Keegan is the main character in this book. He is part of a family that are considered outsiders. They take up residence near the dragon forest where no one else will. When the family is attacked in an attempt to destroy them, Keegan is able to escape into the forest and survive. Violence is in this story…but nothing that would ever make me worried. There is nothing about the violence that compares to other stories out there and there is nothing that is inappropriate for the Jr High crowd at all!

Are you interested? Want to know if Keegan is able to complete his mission? What about Princess Erewhon…and Keegan's life purpose? Well, there is only one way to find out…you have to read the book! Amazon has both the paperback and the Kindle version available for you to read right now! And tomorrow (Thursday 3/6/2014) there will be a Wovlen Madness party on Facebook to celebrate the kickoff of this book! I hope that you will be able to join us from 10pm to midnight Central time.
