Blogging Through the Alphabet – B is for Balance and Breathe

Welcome back to the second week of this journey of Blogging Through the Alphabet. I am glad that you are here! Please make sure you check out my co-hosts when you get a chance:

This week, we are on the letter B. For this, I want to share with you about doTERRA’s Balance, or grounding blend. This oil is a must-have in our house! I currently have three open bottles in three different parts of the house right now and plan on ordering more! Yes, Balance is that good!

My second runner-up for the letter B is Breathe or the respiratory blend. This essential oil comes in many different forms besides the oil, like the vapor stick and the respiratory drops. All of these will help to clear your airways and help your breathing.

But first, Balance. Balance is a blend of spruce, ho wood, frankincense, blue tansy, blue chamomile, and osmanthus. This is a woodsy smell that will help to promote a sense of overall relaxation. This is also a great oil to help with your anxious feelings. We use it in daily in our house.

Ray Ray loves when I diffuse Balance in his room at night. By diffusing this oil, he seems to relax for the night and actually goes to bed when I diffuse this oil. He loves the smell, telling me that it is not a girly smell. This is a big thing for him when I diffuse this blend in his room every night.

I personally use Balance as a perfume for myself. I will apply it with doTERRA’s Hand and Body lotion on a daily basis. I will also apply it to my pulse points on extremely stressful days to keep me grounded and in check with myself.

Now, Breathe, the respiratory blend, is another great oil! This blend comes in a few different ways. You can get the oil, a roller bottle diluted and ready for topical use, the Vapor Stick, and respiratory drops.

Breathe combines Merges Laurel Leaf, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Melaleuca, Lemon, Cardamon, Ravintsara, and Ravensara essential oils to help maintain the feelings of clear airways and easy breathing. So, how do we use this one?

I personally love to apply it to the back of my neck and behind my ears before I go to bed. I feel that I sleep better with this on, and I have been told I might not snore as much! We also love to diffuse this oil at night when someone has a stuffy nose.

The vapor stick is one of my favorites to have on hand when the sniffles come into the house. We are able to apply this like any other vapor rub, but since it is in stick form, I don’t have to get it on my hands to apply it. The kids are even able to apply it to themselves, with my supervision, which makes them feel more independent in their own health.

We have not tried the respiratory drops ourselves, but I have heard great things about how they help to soothe and cool the nasal airways. This is one of those items on my never-ending wish list of things I want in the house!

Have you used Balance or Breathe in your house? What is your favorite way to use them? Do you have questions about them? Ask away in the comments, or send me an email at hopkinshomeschool(at)gmail(dot)com.

If you have a family friendly B Post you would like to share, add it in right here:

Blogging Through the Alphabet – AromaTouch

Welcome to the first week of Blogging Through the Alphabet! I am glad to have you here! Please make sure and stop by my co-hosts when you get the chance.

This time around I want to talk with you about dōTERRA Essential Oils. My family has been using these oils for 4 years now. They are the best thing we have found to help us to stay healthy and avoid OTC medications for the everyday ups and downs.

For the letter A, I want to share with you one of the most used oils in our house, AromaTouch. AromaTouch is known as the Massage Blend. This is an oil that we love to use for an upper shoulder rub when the days get long.

AromaTouch features a blend of Basil, Grapefruit, Cypress, Marjoram, Peppermint, and Lavender essential oils. These oils will help to promote a feeling of relaxation and helps to relieve tension. This is why we use it for shoulder rubs!

The benefits of AromaTouch go beyond its comforting and relaxing benefits. It can add an aromatic experience to a massage, it can be used in the AromaTouch technique with seven other essential oils, and you can use it in a hot bath with Epsom salt.

AromaTouch has a clean, fresh, and minty fragrance which helps to boost the massages. You can also use this in a hand massage instead of a full back massage. We have done both, and love the massage benefits of AromaTouch when the days are hard.

dōTERRA AromaTouch Directions for Use:

Topical Use: Apply one to two drops to the desired area. Dilute with Fractionated Coconut Oil to minimize any skin sensitivity.

Cautions:

Possible skin sensitivity. Keep out of reach of children. If you are pregnant, nursing, or under a doctor’s care, consult your physician first. Avoid contact with eyes, inner ears, and sensitive areas.

Please email me with more questions or how to purchase AromaTouch essential oil at hopkinshomeschool(at)gmail(dot)com.

10 Tips for Managing Your Stress

Homeschooling moms are busy, they are stressed and they do a lot every day. So what can these moms do to relax at the end of the day? Or beginning of the day, or middle of the day? Today I want to share with you 10 tips I have found to be helpful when I find myself stressed out with the day to day dealings of a work at home, homeschooling mom.

10 Tips for Stress Relief

Essential Oils

I love my essential oils, and I love the DoTERRA brand of essential oils. I have found that using their grounding blend oil has helped to promote a sense of relaxation. I love to apply this right away in the morning to the bottom of my feet to help lessen the stress throughout the day. I also find myself diffusing this to help create a calm environment whether in the car or in the school room. Shoot me a message if you want more information on this!

Yoga

I love yoga. I have always loved yoga. I know when I have not done yoga for a long time. I tense up, I snip at the kids or the hubby, I am just all around a grumpy no good person! I don't do anything too crazy, I don't even consider myself to be experienced in it. I just know what I need to do and when. I am in love with this DVD that I have been doing for years now. This simple DVD is just what I need most days, and I try to get it in at least 3 times a week.

Yoga for Stress

Exercise

I have just gotten back into a routine of exercise. I have gotten myself a simple Jawbone pedometer and set a simple goal of 6,000 steps a day. For a mom of 4 kids, I thought I moved more than I really did. This goal will change as I consistently hit it, but I want to start with an attainable goal and build from there.

To help me get those steps in, I take the girls out in the double jogging stroller. Little Miss challenged me to running, and I took her up on it. While I can only do a little at a time, I am working on getting more of the running versus the walking.

Even though I strive to get outside with the girls, or any of the kids that want to join me, I also have been following the Jessica Smith Walk Strong 6-week program. This is a simple program to work your total body without being too crazy. I grew up with walking workouts, and I love the freshness of these ones. If you want to try it out, the YouTube site has a great variety of workouts. Check her out at JessicaSmithTV.

Reading

While this sounds simple, this is not something I always have time for. I used to love finding a good book and staying up all night reading. Now I find myself grading papers, planning lessons or writing for you instead of reading. What I have found is I need to just read. I need to set other stuff aside and just read again. This is something that I love and I need to make time for it. If I do that I find myself a little more peaceful each day.

5 Days of Homeschool 101

Read the Bible

Oh how this one works for me. I have started teaching this to the kids as well. When something is going wrong, when something is going right, when you need relief or want to show thanks, pull out your Bible and read it. This one book is the best book in the world and I can't get enough of it. Have you ever looked up a verse on Google or Pinterest for whatever is ailing you? You will find dozens, so you know there is no shortage in finding help in the bible!

Color

Yes, I said it. And yes, I do it. I love to stop everything I am doing and color with the kids. Lately there has been a coloring trend amongst adults which has lead to adult coloring books. These books are a little more focused on detail and you can find some to use as devotions if you need it. As much as I love coloring with the kids, I love pulling out my very own coloring book after they are in bed and coloring by myself.

Take a Bath

You should try to do this weekly. Take a simple detox bath using 2 cups Epsom Salts, ½ cup baking soda and 10 drops of Lavender essential oil. The Epsom Salts is a great source of magnesium for your body, while the baking soda helps to detox and reduce your swelling. Lavender Essential oil is widely used for the calming and relaxing qualities and it also helps to ease feelings of tension. I personally try to make time for this weekly, and can't wait until I have a larger tub to enjoy this detox bath in!

Detox Bath

Get Sleep

This is a tough one if you are a busy mom. But you need to have sleep. You need this time for your body to relax, and recharge. No matter how busy you are, you should aim to be asleep before midnight most nights. I know, this is hard. I find it hard as well. But this is something I am working on.

Get Up Before The Kids

This will give you the chance to get your coffee going number one, but you will also be able to spend some time just waking up and focusing on your day if you can get up before the kids. This is also where you need to make sure you get to bed before midnight. If you plan to get up earlier, you need to get to sleep earlier. I have been working on the Make Over Your Mornings Course these last couple of mornings. I love how I feel and can't wait to finish this online course very soon. I see a difference from sleeping in as long as I can to actually having time to wake up in the morning!

Laugh

Yes, laugh. Just laugh. Realize that not everything has to be serious and let yourself laugh. Laugh with your kids, laugh with your spouse, laugh with your friends, just laugh. Laughing will help you destress, it will help your heart and it even helps with pain! Why are we not laughing more? Find a joke book and tell jokes around the dinner table tonight and help everyone laugh more!

Manage Stress

And A Bonus!!

I know, I said 10, but I want to make sure that you are getting outside. Go and look at the beauty God has around you. He has made all of this for us and we need to enjoy it, not stress all the time. Breath in the fresh air, smell the flowers, and let the wind blow through your hair. And don't forget to dance in the rain!

So, what is your favorite way to destress?

Devonian GREEMU ~ A Schoolhouse Crew Review

Have you head of Emu Oil? Do you love all the benefits that it gives? What if I told you there was another option? One that gives you the benefits of emu oil, but without the emu? Let me tell you about GREEMU Oil from Devonian.

Devonian Review

GREEMU is a blend of plant oils and butters that have a lipid composition that matches Grade A Emu Oil. GREEMU is the same in color, composition, texture and consistency as Emu Oil.

We love our Emu Oil as a carrier oil for our essential oils, so when we had the chance to try GREEMU Oil, I was excited. Giving a good back rub with this is wonderful, working on the dry skin, perfect! But I tried something else as well. I made a leave in conditioner for the long hair in this family.

Little Miss has waist length, wavy hair. I love it, as does she. The only problem? Mornings when I have to brush it. This leads to issues of tangles and not wanting me to touch her. I love having a leave in conditioner, but have been trying to find healthier options to the store bought brands.

Greemu Review

The first time I tried to make this, I tried a different carrier oil, and this lead to greasy, nasty hair. However, when I used ¾ tsp of GREEMU Oil, 3-5 drops of my essential oil of choice and water in a 3 oz spray bottle, I found a miracle in a bottle!

This spray has made her hair easy to brush. I don't have to battle her every time. Baby Girl loves this too. With her thin, baby hair, the slightest bit of spray or oil would weight it down, not this. This leaves her hair soft as well.

I have also been able to use GREEMU Oil on my knees and elbows. I have extremely dry skin in the winter months, but applying this daily has helped to make them soft and "normal" again. Mix this with and essential oil of choice (I love the smell of lavender before bed) and you have a great smelling, healing oil to help your skin.

Greemu Review

We are in love with GREEMU Oil here in our house. This Oil is a life saver in many areas, and we love how not oily it feels and looks when we use it. You don't have to take our word for it, check out these other reviews with me!

DIY with Essential Oils

DIY Essential Neck Wrap

DIY Essential Oils

Now this…this is one of the best creations in the world! Warm on the back of your neck at the end of a long day with the essential oil of your choice drifting up to breath in. Yes, this can be possible! Ray Ray loves to warm ours up with his favorite oil to cuddle up with when he isn't feeling good.

DIY Sugar Scrub Recipe

DIY Essential Oils

Sugar scrubs, oh my! These are heaven in a jar! I love pampering myself, yet knowing that it is all natural and pretty inexpensive. This site shows many of the recipes that I love to use!

Homemade Bath Salts

DIY Essential Oils

This goes together with the sugar scrubs. I love sitting down with a glass of wine while pampering myself. Now when I think of pamper and wine, I think of the bathtub. After a long crazy day at home, this is nice to have! Look at how simple this really is!

Eucalyptus Essential Oil Shower Melts

DIY Essential Oils

If you don't have the time to slow down and take a bath, why not make your shower a spa for the time being? Check out these super awesome shower melts! They don't require abstract items, and if you are like me, you probably already have everything you need to make these right now, check it out!

Diffuser Necklace

how-to-make-diffuser-necklace-essential-oils

I love my diffusers, and some days I wish I could bring them with me! When I can't, I throw on a necklace and enjoy the same benefits from before. I love how simple the directions are for this necklace are. This is something I will soon venture to make with the kids, right now we have some cute necklaces we got from our family reunion.

Homemade Carpet Deodorizer

DIY Essential Oils

This is the newest thing I have found that works wonders for me! I love the scent in my house and I love that I can customize it to my mood. I love no chemicals and I feel good using this and letting the kids and animals roam on it! If you try any of these DIY ideas, this is the one I would tell you to try!

Moisturizing Foaming Hand Wash

DIY Essential Oils

Now this is a new one that I really want to try out. This is similar to the carpet deodorizer in that I can pick and choose my own scents and know what is really in the soap my family uses every day. I plan on making some later this week and would love to hear your favorite combos of essential oils.

These are just some of the things I make, or want to make with my essential oils. I know there many other things out there! What are some of your favorite things to make with your essential oils? I would love to know! Leave me a comment and/or link below so that I can check them out!!

Koru Naturals ~ A Schoolhouse Crew Review

Koru Naturals Schoolhouse Review

We love to go as natural as we can and love our oils. When we were given the option to review some Emu Oil and Manuka Oil and Honey Shampoo and Conditioner from Koru Naturals, we were excited. Well, I was more than anyone else!

Koru Naturals Schoolhouse Review

As part of this review, we received a single 2 oz bottle of 100% Grade A Emu Oil and the Manuka Oil and Honey Shampoo and Conditioner 8 oz set. The shampoo and conditioner also have lavender, chamomile, peppermint and rosehip oils in them.

Koru Naturals Schoolhouse Review

Since I had never used Emu Oil before this, I wanted to see what it was good for. This oil is wonderful! It is a wonderful moisturizer and very little is needed when it is used. But Emu oil is not just good for a moisturizer, you can use this wonder oil for hair conditioning, dry scalp, cuticle care, stretch marks, arthritis comfort, muscle aches and joint stiffness. We decided to use it as a carrier oil for our essential oils. By doing this, we were able to combine the benefits. The principal loved to have this oil used in his back rubs. The first thing he noticed and commented on was the fact that it wasn’t greasy. He didn’t feel like he had to wipe his back off before putting on his shirt and he was so much more comfortable because of this. Not only this, but he noticed that his stiffness in his back (where he has had surgery) was not as bad and more bearable. So, we call that a win-win in our books!

Koru Naturals Schoolhouse Review

Now, the shampoo and conditioner is something I was looking forward to the most! I love my “mostly” quiet time in the shower, and a good shampoo and conditioner set is something that is a treat. With the use of Manuka Oil and Honey, your hair is rid of impurities, and I noticed this right away. I loved the smell and the feeling of using this set, and as my hair was drying (air not blower) I noticed it seemed “frizzier” than normal. After doing a comb through, that frizzy went away and I noticed my hair feeling smoother. By the end of the week, and more uses of the set, I noticed shinier hair that felt cleaner for longer periods of time…which is a wonderful thing for a mom of 4 and a newborn in that mix! It was good to know that even if I couldn’t get a shower as often as I hoped, I still had clean looking, and feeling hair! Now Little Miss didn’t want to miss out on using the “special” shampoo! I have been using the “grown up” shampoo and conditioner with her, and she loved being able to use mommy’s shampoo. I noticed the same frizz as her hair was drying after the first use, but it also went away when combed. With Little Miss, I also noticed that her hair stayed more manageable through the day.

All of these products were wonderful items! We loved them and use them almost daily! They have become a part of our routine. I am in love with them and plan on purchasing more to replenish my stock as I need. I have to say the biggest selling point on them is the non-greasy emu oil! This ranks the highest in my books. And the feeling of my hair with the shampoo and conditioner makes me not want to use those artificial off the shelf shampoos that I have been using.

Koru Naturals has many other products such as Lanolin Lip Balm, Lanolin Cream and Koolpurrie Restoring Balm. Head over to the other reviewers and see what they had to say about their items. And don’t forget to show some love on Facebook and Pinterest.
