Friday Funnies, Flops, and Fails – March 23, 2018

Here we are at the end of another week. This week has been a week where I have been behind all week. Every time I think I am caught up, I find something else that needs to be done. But that is the life some weeks!

This week was also filled with a few new doctor appointments for Daddy. These were not ones we were ready to deal with, but things we knew we had to do. On top of that, Daddy has his birthday on Saturday. After these appointments and the forecast of possible snow, we are planning on spending the day at home and hiding out. No big parties, just celebrating with us and loving every minute of it! Maybe even renting a new family-friendly movie, what do you recommend?

This last week, while we were dealing with the doctor appointments, Ray Ray ended up making a new friend in the neighborhood. This meant that he would actually focus on getting his school done before his friend was done with public school. This made me happy unless I wasn’t prepared to help him on certain things, but more times than not, I was ready to help him fly through his lessons for the day!

The only real fail we had this week was me, not being ready for the day on some days. But, as a busy homeschool mom, sometimes that happens. I am ok with that. I know that I am only human and that these things will happen.

Make sure you stop by and show my co-host, Kirsten from DoodleMom, some love!

Last week, our most viewed post was Child’s Discovery from Imaginative Homeschool. This simple post shows us that our kids are listening to us and remember what we teach them, even if it is through a simple bowl of fruit!

Did you have a funny, flop or fail that happened this week? We would love to hear about it! By linking up, you agree to let us use an image from your site if you are chosen as a most viewed post in the next week.

Friday Funnies, Flops, and Fails – March 16, 2018

The weeks seem to fly by. By the time I have a plan in action, I have to change that plan! I don’t always like changing my plans, but I know that life is life and that I will have to just push through and make it happen.

This week I had the lesson plans all planned out, but the time change made the mornings harder. By the time we were ready to go, it was the perfect time to get outside with our warmer weather. No one wanted to come in, which means, we stayed out until supper some days. And after supper, instead of doing school, we would spend that time working on baths, showers or goofing around and laughing.

This meant that we didn’t do everything on the lesson plans. We would fit in some things here and there, but not everything got done. I had an issue with this, for a little bit. But I didn’t want this to set the tone for the rest of the days. I am still learning how to change my attitude, and some days are easier than others.

I am loving these Funnies, Flops, and Fails posts that I get to co-host with Kirsten from DoodleMom! Make sure you stop by her page and show her some love for me!

Last week, the popular post was Kym at Homeschool Coffee Break. She talks about Death Wish Coffee!

Friday Funnies, Flops, and Fails – March 9, 2018

Another week has flown past! I can’t believe how fast this week has gone. But I am glad that it is Friday and hope that I can sit and do nothing a lot this weekend! It would make up for this week, that is for sure!

While the week has flown by, it did not happen without some flops or fails. I have to say, we even had a few funnies in it! We made it through, no one has any scars, and we are ending the week with a well-needed visit and prayer with our pastor.

This week, we have completed “most” of our school. This means that we have covered the basics and all the extra-curricular is being done in real life instead of a lesson plan. Need to get a gym lesson in? Get outside and play while mom takes a breath! Need home-ec? Oh, look dishes need to be washed, and I think those clean clothes can be folded! These types of things are not an important to-do on our school list, but they still get covered in our daily activities!

I am happy to be Kirsten from DoodleMom’s co-host for the Friday Funnies, Flops, and Fails link up! You should stop by and show her some love! Tell her I sent you.

Last week, our top viewed post was from Imaginative Homeschool and their post on Moving While Homeschooling. Have you checked it out? The tips are excellent, and I would love to have had these tips when we moved in the middle of our homeschool year a few years back!

Have you had a funny, flop, or fail this week? We would love to have you share them with us. It reminds us that we are all normal and things, life, happens and this is ok!

Friday Funnies, Flops, and Fails – March 2, 2018

Wow, the end of the week is upon us! This week flew by at times and was in slow motion at other times. I am so happy that I have made it this far this week and I really don’t care what I did or didn’t get done this week, as long as we are all here!

We did get some school done each day. While it may not have been everything we wanted to do, it was enough to make me happy! We got the reading, math, some writing and even some Latin in for the week! This is what makes me happy. All the rest can wait!

Have you had a week like this? A week that you feel like you are failing your kids, or you had a major flop, or what about a tremendous funny that you wanted to share? If you had any of those that you wrote about this week, we want to hear about it! Those days that you would instead hide from the world, yeah those are the ones we want to hear about! This makes us all feel normal!

Make sure to stop by and say hello to my co-host, Kirsten at DoodleMom while you are here!

Please share your everyday, average, not picture perfect homeschool day with us!

Friday Funnies, Flops, and Fails – February 23, 2018

These last three weeks have been crazy for me! I had things under control for the most part, during January, but the new month arrives, and all of a sudden I have the wind knocked out of me! Literally, I felt like I had the wind knocked out of me.

I don’t know if it had to do with the one year anniversary of Daddy’s surgery, or if it was the weather (lots of gloomy, snowy days), but I didn’t want to be awake. It felt like it was a chore to stay awake. I would fight to get my work done and struggle to get the kid’s school done. They weren’t very helpful at this most days, thinking if I was napping, they could be playing video games!

The good thing about all of this? I made sure school got done. Somedays it was after supper, but it got done. I have, so far, completed things that need to be done, although today is the first day all month that I actually feel like I have a good start to the day. I feel like everything is done and I can slowly start getting ahead again!

Being in the homeschool setting, this has helped us adapt to whatever happens. My kids sleep in late, but they also stay up late. We have something we need to do, they get to sleep and still get up in time, not always happy, but they get up. We make our schedules, our schedules don’t make us. This allows us to learn in the way that works for us.

Speaking of which, we have noticed a lack of “fun” in the homeschool these last couple of weeks. I had stretched myself out between Ray Ray and Little Miss trying to be one-on-one with both of them for many of the subjects. This was not working at all! I found out that Ray Ray loves the Masterbook Curriculum that I got for him. I also found out that Little Miss was busy watching him and liking what she was seeing.

Guess what I did? I got her the Language and Math from Masterbooks and had her be involved in Ray Ray’s History lessons. I didn’t make her write out the answers like I did Ray Ray, but I did make her narrate her answers back to me. Now we are able to do Math and History together. This takes time and gives it back to me. Hopefully, in the next few weeks, we will be able to start a science program together with them that I have been eyeing up!!! I will let you know how that goes!

Don’t you love how you can have some fails in your homeschool and still make it work for you and your family? I love that I am able to adapt and change our homeschool to the times and things that are going on in it at that time! Because we know that these things happen, Kirsten from DoodleMom and I love to talk about our Funnies, Flops and Fails on Fridays!

Did you have a funny, flop or fail that you wrote about this week? We would love to have you share that with us!

Friday Funnies, Flops, or Fails – January 26, 2018

Where in the world did this week go? I am in shock that we are at the end of another week again! Kirsten from DoodleMom and myself are here and ready to talk about our Funnies, Flops, and Fails for this week!

Each week, we like to sit back and think about how the week went. How we made things happen, or how we didn’t. This week, I had a week of trying to get things done with kids who didn’t want to work with me. We started off with a snow storm that wasn’t as crazy as we thought.

After getting back on track, we had to deal with normal kid issues. Doesn’t that sound fun! But we ended the week sledding down the hill that Daddy and Moe Man built for us!

Last week, Annette from A Net in Time had the top viewed post with Give Us… Check it out right here!

We would love to hear about your funnies, flops or fails from the week. What happened that you laughed or cried about? Will you link up your end of the week post so that we can help support each other?

Friday Funnies, Flops or Fails – January 19, 2018

Another homeschool week has come to pass. There were lots of ups and downs at our house, but that seems like a normal thing. Between sick kids, and lesson plan fails, I can say that I feel like I am ready for Friday more than ever!

I am excited to be back with Kirsten from DoodleMom to co-host Friday Funnies, Flops, and Fails! What is this you may ask? Well it is simple. If you had a funny, a flop, or a fail that happened in your homeschool this last week and you wrote about it, we want to hear about it.

That is right! We want to hear your real-life stories of homeschool! We are homeschool moms just like you, and we know that things don’t happen how we want them to. This is ok! This is why we want to share these stories with each other, to remind and support each other through this battle!

Last week’s post with the most views was from A Net in Time with Writing Tools: Order Words for Emphasis with Printable. You can check it out right here.

Do you have a funny, flop, or fail that you want to share with us this week? We would love to read about it. Please share your post with us right here:

What’s Hoppin’ at Hopkins Homeschool – Coping with the Cold

This last week was a fun one in our homeschool, sort of. We had some ups, some downs and some just don’t care moments. But isn’t that what homeschool is all about? Moments that we are super mom and get it all done, and moments when we just don’t know what we are doing!

This week, we had some nice warm weather. Which, in Minnesota, in January is hit or miss. But this was warm, like above freezing warm. Like we could go outside and not die weather! So, what did I do? I took the kids out and did as many nature studies as I could in the three days we had before the cold came back! I threw the lesson plan out the window and went for it!

We have been working on The Winter Morning Time Plans from Pam Barnhill. Here is my fail of the week…I don’t do them in the morning. I do them at lunch time or even bedtime. We are never all together for breakfast. We do not have a set wake up or school start time. We do have a you need to be out of bed by a certain time, but other than that, I pay attention to when the kids are ready to learn and go for it.

Part of the Winter Morning Time Plans includes the Coping with the Cold NaturExplorer from Cindy West. This is a fun way to let the kids love nature a little more. You don’t always have to get outside, but you can find some great books or activities to help with that. I wish I would have started this in the fall versus in the middle of the winter. This is a great study that helps us focus on the animals in the winter, how they prepare, and how they survive.

Nature Study

This week, we had the chance to check out the tracks in the snow. We love trying to guess what animal it is. And even though we live in town, we still have enough tracks in our yard to try to figure them out. Not only that, but we were able to track our shadows through the day. This was so much fun, until I realized two of the three kids had picked a spot that would be in the shade of the neighbor’s house…another mommy fail moment. However, they were still thrilled to see their shadow was moving during the day and Little Miss had an awesome guide of the sun moving through the day!

Nature Study

While we didn’t do a lot out of the book the beginning of this week, we read some great books at bedtime and spent a lot of time outside checking things out. While many may say this is a fail to the lesson plan, to me, this was a win to my children!

Did you have a fun experience this week? What was your win? What was your fail? I would love to hear about them!
