Review of Grapevine Studies – The Birth of Jesus

Who would have guessed that a simple stick figure would help your children learn more about the bible? We have had the opportunity to use The Birth of Jesus bible study from Grapevine Studies and we have found a fun way to learn more about the birth of Jesus.

Birth of Jesus Review

What It Is

The Birth of Jesus study comes in two different levels, the Beginner Level, which is perfect for ages 5-7 and the Elementary Level which is great for ages 7 and up. Both of these levels have a Traceable option which works wonders for ages 3-5. Between these, we have all three kids in this house covered!

Both levels also have a physical book and an eBook option. The eBooks have the family license option and a class license option. Along with the student books, there are the teacher guides to go along with each of them. The teacher guides also come as physical and eBooks. For our review, we received the eBook option. I love this option because we are able to instantly use the product and don’t have to wait for them to be packaged and then delivered to us.

In the Beginner study of the Birth of Jesus, you get 30 pages of lessons that can be split into 7 weekly lessons or 14 daily lessons. The teacher guide is 26 pages of notes, key points and pictures of what to draw where.

The Elementary study has 48 lesson pages. You can do 5 weekly lessons or 24 daily lessons with this study. The teacher guide has 64 pages, also with the notes key points and pictures of what to draw.

How Did We Use This

We didn’t do weekly or daily lessons. We did lessons every other day. I wanted to spend some time on each of the verses we worked on, and since I didn’t really have a “schedule” I had to follow, it was nice to use this at our pace.

Birth of Jesus Grapevine Review

Before starting each lesson, I would look it all over and see what verses we would be working on. I would read through them myself and focus on what we would be learning about. This helped me know what questions the kids might have for me later in the day when we went over this together.

Birth of Jesus Grapevine Review

When it came to lesson time, we would sit down at the table together and start our study. Little Miss did more coloring of the traceables than actually tracing them, but she was actively participating and that was all that mattered to me!

Birth of Jesus Grapevine Review

Ray Ray has loved Grapevine Bible studies since we did our first one! When he found out we were doing more, he ran to pull out his colored pencils. Although he is able to draw these simple figures on his own, he requested to use the traceables like Little Miss. He had more fun with those, and I have learned to pick my battles like this.

Birth of Jesus Grapevine Review

Moe Man did use the non-tracable version, but wouldn’t let me take pictures…must be a teenage boy thing! He would join the littles for their lessons and then we would add to his lesson by doing some of the Elementary Study. He actually wanted to do both Beginner, so that he could get a general understanding of the story and then the Elementary so that he could learn more. I was shocked, but once again…I didn’t argue.

What Did We Think

We loved this Bible Study of the Birth of Jesus. Not only was this a simple, no fuss way to study the bible with all three ages, but it was easy for me to teach! I didn’t have a lot of prep work…and on the days when I could only spend a few minutes in prayer before teaching, it was fine because I didn’t have to worry about anything other than the colors and the papers.

Each one of the kids loved this study for their own reasons. Little Miss just loves any kind of art so she loved being able to be an artist. Ray Ray loves that this program is what taught him he has the ability to draw…and he draws! I have stick figure bible stories all over the house! And Moe Man loved having something to do while I read from the bible.

We would recommend this and all the Grapevine Studies to anyone who wants a simple yet fun way to study the bible!

Want to know what is even better? Grapevine Studies is letting me give one of you lucky readers your own copy of the Teacher/Student eBook Set of The Birth of Jesus! You get to choose the level you want! And there is still plenty of time to learn about the Birth of Jesus before Christmas! Hurry and enter for yourself!

Blue Manor Education Review and GIVEAWAY

What type of curriculum do you like to use for your Preschooler or Kindergarten child? Do you want to give them the best that you can? A solid start to their education? Over at Blue Manor Education, they feel the same way. I was able to review the Preschool Curriculum and the Kindergarten Curriculum.

A Review and Giveaway of Blue Manor Education

Both of these curriculum sets are Christian based and are the e-Books. With the e-books, you have options, you can print them and use them like real books, or save paper and ink and use them on our tablet. We printed some of the pages, but both Ray Ray and Little Miss loved to use the tablet to do their school! They felt grown up and thought they were playing.

The Blue Manor Preschool eBook set comes with 23 individual books and a “how-to” book on how to use this curriculum with the kids. Among these ebooks, are Bible, Colors and Concepts, Drawing and Art, Mathematics, Personal Development, Phonics Reading, Science and Vocabulary along with 4 Level 1 phonics readers.

A Review and Giveaway of Blue Manor Education

Little Miss loved using this curriculum, and loved having her own school to do along with her brothers. I loved that there was no planning needed on my part. If I had a few minutes, I would grab her, the tablet and we would go to town on one thing at a time.

A Review and Giveaway of Blue Manor Education

We would be able to pick and choose what we wanted to work on each time we had the chance. I loved the Bible lessons. The pictures are not “kiddy” pictures, they are real pictures. The artwork is beautiful and goes along with the story perfectly. The stories are not that long, but just right for the attention span of a preschooler.

A Review and Giveaway of Blue Manor Education

Although the Phonics Readers are in the preschool package, I have been using those for Ray Ray. He is my math wiz, and wants nothing to do reading. However, he is picking up on the reading now, so we are using these for him. He loves the stories for the stories, I love that the picture is located on a different page from the words so he can’t guess the words. He actually has to read the words and then he can go on to examine the picture. It is also nice on the tablet that there is no picture to distract him while he should be reading. He is zooming through these and actually asks to do his reading now!

The Kindergarten Curriculum eBook Set is set at Level 2. This should be done after Level 1 is completed. Once again there are 23 individual eBooks and the How To eBook. Included at this level are Bible, Brain Builder, Drawing Basics, Geography, History, Math, Phonics Reading, Science, Vocabulary and Writing & Penmanship.

A Review and Giveaway of Blue Manor Education

While Ray Ray loves the phonics in the Preschool set, he loves the math in this package just as much. The children are introduced to all these subjects by the reading of the books again. Once again, you are able to download and print or just use them on the tablet. With the use of the tablet you are able to pull this out as you see fit for time or attention.

These subjects are building off of the same subjects from Level 1 and your child will be more successful if you fully finish Level 1 first. I did a quick review with Ray Ray before jumping ahead to the Kindergarten level and he is doing well with these lessons.

A Review and Giveaway of Blue Manor Education

My favorite addition to the Kindergarten set that wasn’t in the Preschool set is the brain builders. We love to add any kind of logic lessons into our daily lessons. The kids think of them as games, and I love that they are using other parts of their brains to figure out the answers. The Brain Builders are no exception and Ray Ray loves to do these as his daily warm up.

If you are looking at a great way to get your kids into their school, give them a head start and build a love for learning, I highly recommend these programs from Blue Manor Education. And for a regular price of $39.99 for a full curriculum, you can’t really argue about the price!

Today you are all really lucky…I have been given the priviledge of being able to give away one of the Preschool Curriculums to one of you lucky readers! Enter in below!!

Grapevine Studies ~ Review and GIVEAWAY

How do you study the bible? How do your kids study the bible? What if I told you there was a fun way to make your kids want to study the bible all day and they truly enjoyed it and remembered it!?! Welcome to the picture Grapevine Studies

This wonderful program was created by John and Dianna, who have homeschooled all four of their children. They made a program that has taken my rambunctious 5 year old and sit and focus on what I was telling him! This program not only interests Ray Ray, but Moe Man loves to pull out the colored pencils and "stick figure through the bible" with us!

There is more than one level when it comes to the Grapevine Studies. The newest being the traceables for the littles (3-5 years) who aren't sure they can actually draw yet! These levels go all the way up to Level 4 for the young teens. Each level gets a little more in depth with the stories in the bible.

We used the Level 3 New Testament Overview (Part 1) and the Traceable Beginner Part 1, John to the Apostles. These are two separate programs, but they cover almost the same topics, and were perfect for our ages. The teacher editions show what color the different people and items should be and help you to explain and ask questions about the readings.

The Level 3 book starts with blank squares with the bible verse in them. After reading the verse, you go on to stick figuring what you just heard. Now, there are a few ways to do this. I grabbed a piece of scratch paper and drew right along with Moe Man. I would look at the teacher edition and draw, than he would copy my drawing. Another way, which Ray Ray prefers is to allow the kids to look at the teacher copy while you read and they draw.

The Traceable Beginner book has a simple picture of what to draw. The kids than take the correct color and trace the image. As soon as Ray Ray started, he wouldn't stop! He couldn't stop! I have scratch paper all through the house that is filled with stick figures telling me stories of the bible…not just what we have read with Grapevine, but all the bible stories he remembers!

So, do I like this program? You bet I do! I wouldn't trade this for anything else! This has made the kids remember what they hear and they can actually picture it as they draw the pictures. With the eBooks going for $10 and the Teacher eBooks at $18, the price is very nice and nothing to complain about. You can find Grapevine Studies on Facebook, Google+, Twitter, Pinterest and Instagram.

Dianna has been nice enough to offer up a student and teacher eBook combo of The Resurrection to one of you lovely readers! Make sure you enter and pass the word along!!

Poppins Book Nook ~ Presidents

1620394_273533652796458_867251012_n (1)

Have you heard of Poppins Book Nook? It is an online book club for kids with a monthly theme to follow. We have been following along, but this month we are blogging about it too!

This month, the theme was Presidents. Do you know how many books there are about presidents? Trying to find just one or two…yeah, that doesn't work too well 🙂 We decided we wanted to learn more about Abraham Lincoln, so we read a couple of books about him.

My personal favorite was "…If You Grew Up With Abraham Lincoln" by Ann McGovern. The kids loved learning the differences from our time to Lincoln's time. We had fun learning that the house Lincoln lived in was a log cabin. We decided to build our own cabins out of popsicle sticks. Ray Ray and Little Miss decided that their choice of glue would be a pretty glitter glue…have to add some decorations some how right?

We also learned about the phrase "Honest Abe". The kids are now having fun calling each other "Honest Abe" when someone isn't telling the whole truth. This makes it really fun to listen to 🙂 And who could forget the use of lights…or lack of. We turned on our little electric fireplace and lit a candle to show the amount of light they would have in the dark. The kids weren't sure what to think, but did have fun just sitting for a moment.

Celebrate Jesus ~ Review and Giveaway

Celebrate Jesus: An exciting Advent Journey for families.

(Affiliate Links are used in this post. I earn a percentage of the sales when you click through with my links. These earnings help make it possible for us to continue to homeschool and run this site.)

What do you do for Advent? How do you keep Christ in Christmas? Are you still looking for that one thing that will work? Why not try Celebrate Jesus, Light of the World!

Amy Blevins over at Homeschool Encouragement has taken the time to write down what works for her family and is sharing it with all of us! This is not a program where you will have to plan for days before each day and spend tons of money just preparing to do a fun activity. There is no stress over doing everything! Amy gives you tons of ideas, but tells you right away that even her family doesn't do it all!

Now, I know Advent doesn't "start" until December 1st this year, and I will be honest when I say that the kids haven't started using this program yet. Even though they haven't used it, does not mean that I haven't been reading the daily plans already 🙂

I like to make sure that I know what we are doing before we do it. Like I said earlier, Amy made this program so that us moms don't have to do much planning. We get to spend that extra time we would spent on planning reading the scriptures before hand and spending our quiet time with the Lord first.

In this 81 page eBook of Celebrate Jesus, Amy has included a master supply list for the 24 days of Advent, daily scripture readings and activities for all 24 days, 24 pages of copywork and 13 different recipes.

My favorite part of this whole thing…the master supply list! I don't have to read days ahead when I head out to the store! I don't have to make a quick run to get one or two things! I can bring this master supply list with me and get everything for the whole week. This may sound like a small victory to some, but those of you who do know what I am talking about, know how huge this is 🙂

Each day in this Advent program contains scripture reading, questions to review what you just read, table time with your Advent wreath and an activity. All of this is just wonderfully laid out and flows together. There are songs that you can sing or listen to each day. Amy gives you a site where you can find almost all of these songs for free, and I am seeing some of them on YouTube also that the kids are already listening too (make sure you preview them first for inappropriate commercials or ads).

Daily activities scare me…will I be crafty enough to make it work? Will the kids like what I have planned? How much is it going to cost me to make a mess? Amy doesn't include any of those types of activities in this program! These are fun to do activities…I can pull these off! Using simple things like construction paper, markers, scissors, beads and pipe cleaners (and these are for multiple days, not just one!) to make the different projects happen…I have all of these already!! This takes the fear and worry out of  daily activities for this mom!

The recipes in here are yummy sounding! Yes, I used the word yummy 🙂 Amy's Peanut Butter Fudge and only 7 ingredients to boot?!? Yes please! I am excited to try the recipes with the kids and love that Amy left some blank recipe cards in there also. I am not a baker, but with the kids I have started to work against this and learn new things with them! What better time to try, right?

We have started using more and more copywork within our homeschool, so to see Amy include that in the program was wonderful! Moe Man is working on making his handwriting more neat. Using this system seems to help him figure out how the letters really should look, and he loves to sit down and focus hard on it. Ray Ray is still learning and just likes to copy. Why not give him bible verses based on what we are learning about that day for Advent to help him copy the right way. I love seeing the little pictures at the bottom of each page. We love to color, so this is a perfect way to end their copywork for the day!

Celebrate Jesus is available in either KJV or ESV and the copywork is in manuscript (printing). Either one of these versions are only $4.99 and you can find them by clicking on the picture at the top of this page or this one below.

Celebrate Jesus an exciting Advent celebration for families.

Amy has been generous enough to offer a free copy of this Advent program in the version (KJV or ESV) of your choice to one lucky winner! Enter below for your chance to win! I will draw one winner on Saturday, November 30.
