The Homemaker’s Mentor: Review and Giveaway

The Homemakers Mentor

(I received a free copy of this product in return for an honest review. Below you will read that honest review. I am not getting paid to write anything nice, that is all just me!)

What stay at home mom doesn't want to be a "homemaker"? I know I would love to have the perfect everything at home for my family. However…somewhere down the line I just got lost. I knew what I wanted, but didn't know how to get it. Well, after being invited to try the Homemaker's Mentor, I think I found it.

This cd is filled with over 110 "lessons" for any age. Martha Green and Rebekah Wilson spent four years putting all these wonderful files together for "normal" wanna-be homemakers like myself! These lessons are about everything!! They have some good recipes, and tricks to keep your house clean. Who wouldn't want a spa like bathroom or a mater bedroom retreat? Not to mention some really awesome stories that are really awesome to read aloud to the kids!

I loved the tricks for the kitchen. And it is true…besides our living room, we spend most of our time in the kitchen, so why shouldn't it be nice and clean? We have the fun cabinets that sit low off the ceiling so you can "decorate" them with pretty little things. Well, the only problem with that is that dust loves to collect up there. Working your way around your kitchen is broken down into different lessons for you to make your kitchen a nice comfortable spot to hang out.

mini-lessoncovers-4rows

My other favorite lesson was the one called "Mom and the Medicine Cabinet". It was a perfect lesson to work on with the kids with the cold and flu season on its way. Teaching the kids about how you can get the cold and the different stages of the cold were making the kids think more about what they were doing. Talk about a good health lesson! Not only did we learn about the cold, we were also able to learn about treat the colds…including the right way to blow our noses 🙂

Now, I just couldn't let you get interested in something like this and leave you hanging, could I? First, if you want your own copy of this wonderful cd, all you need to do is head over here and order one 🙂 They are selling for $37 with free shipping until the end of October. After that, the price will go up to $47. Want to win one? I have the chance to give away TWO of the cds (if you are outside of the US, you can get the zip files to download for your prize). Not only that, but there is a large giveaway going on until the 18th of October. You can win all the items pictured below by going right here.

Simple Machines ~ Winter Promise (Review)

Simplemachinesbook

(I was given this item for free in return for my honest opinion. I am not being paid to say anything nice, I am being honest)

Have you heard of Winter Promise (http://www.winterpromise.com/)? I hadn't!! But than I looked into it, and fell in LOVE!! When there was a chance to help them out by reviewing one of their units, I jumped! Now I usually find things for Big Kid when I am looking at these, but I wanted something for Ray Ray. He is in Kindergarten this year, and I found a Science unit for grades 2-6. I figured it sounded fun, so we would try it.

Simple Machines has been so fun for us!! We have learned about our "toys" that help us get work done quicker and easier. Levers and pulleys, wheels and axles. And it was FUN!! The whole 7 week unit study doesn't look like it is too spendy, at least compared to many other similar companies I have looked at ($25).

SimpleMachines

Winter Promise couldn't have made it any easier for me as a mom. The lessons are planned out (only two days a week) and have it all right there for a busy mom! I got all my items in an eBook download. I printed the whole unit, and it didn't break the bank at all, and I have it saved on my tablet for the just in case moments!

Simplemachinesschedule

The only book that was "required" for this unit, I was able to find at the library! Score! But we really like it, so it is on our Christmas list 🙂

Ray Ray loved having his own science to do during the school day. And he played with the experiments for hours! He loved how easy to understand the book was, and although he doesn't write yet, he was able to tell me the answers to the worksheets and I could write them down for him. His favorite time was cuddling with daddy and reading about the different machines.

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Winter Promise now has a new sister site for these smaller unit studies. Go and check it out at Spirited Autumn Hope.

The Pets of Homeschool

The Pets of Homeschool

A simple post today. Nothing about the kids…dang! It is an introduction to the pets of our homeschool. Without further ado, here they are:

PB

PB (Penny Belle) has been in the house the longest. She is our lovable, kitty cat who doesn't cuddle! She will rub on our legs, lay at our feet or eat our fingers, but she won't cuddle! Everyone in the house loves her though and we wouldn't change her for anything!!

Nemo

Nemo is our female betta fish. We got her on a whim and never knew we would fall in love with her the way we did. Now, a betta is an awesome fish. They require very little care and live forever! We just recently moved Nemo up in housing from a little tank to a 5 gallon mansion tank and she is happy!

Jolly

Jolly is our rescue pup. We had a dog like him before, but with the way life was at the time, we just couldn't give her what she needed. Now that things have settled I needed a dog again. We found Jolly with a rescue family. As soon as we met him, we were in love! Just what we needed!!

Gary

Now that we have a bigger fish tank, we figured a snail would be a good addition. Since all the decorations in the tank were the ones they were (without fully naming it) we went with the name that matches them. Gary has been fun and we are learning a lot about snails now that we have one.

ninja

And finally, Ninja the gerbil. When we went to go get Gary, daddy and Ray Ray fell in love with this small critter. I have always wanted a pet like this, and since we already had a large tank at home, we figured we would give it a go. With how fast this guy moves, we decided on the name of Ninja. But Ray Ray calls him Snake Eyes the Ninja 🙂

So there you have it. The pets of our homeschool classroom/house!

My (Not So) Perfect Homeschool Day

The (Not So) Perfect Homeschool Day

My (Not So) Perfect Homeschool Day Ok, so here we go…are you ready for it? My day is NOT perfect…in fact, I don't think we have ever had one of those "perfect" days since, well, since before kids 🙂 Would I trade my kids for the perfect days again? No way!

I like to write about the good things. I like to post pictures of the good things. But, that is not my whole day…that is usually about 5 minutes here or there and than it "normal" again with organized chaos.

So, here it goes…my (not so) perfect homeschool day.

"We will all be up and happy by 8 am to have breakfast and than start school by 9am."  So, for most public school kids, this is a dream for school 🙂 My kids, yeah, not so much…They might be up by 8, but they are not happy! And school starting by 9, um…as long as we get it done before bed, right?

"When we sit down to do school, everyone will sit nice in their spots and not run around or scream, or anything like that." We are not public school, we are not private school, we ARE homeschool. They may have "spots" to sit, but they may only use those spots once in a great while. My kids like the chairs, the couch, the bean bags, the floor, the kitchen table, daddy's lap, anywhere that is not their "assigned" seat to sit. And you know what, I DON'T CARE! As long as they are comfortable and learning, I am happy.

sitting daddy

"We will follow a schedule everyday and do each subject at a certain time, lunch at a certain time, chores, ect." Um, hello…we homeschool. I may want to do things at certain times, but I get them done when I get them done…and chores, who has time for chores 🙂 We do pretty good on those, the house isn't falling down, but why does that dang laundry fill up so much faster than my bank account and why do I need to fold it all the time???

"The kids will be happy with everything we do and won't argue or scream about anything." HAHAHA!! Have you ever tried to teach a 7th grader, um, ANYTHING?!?!?! And than add in a Kindergarten boy…one who thinks he knows it all and everybody needs to listen to him NOW, but don't ask him to sit still, or hold a pencil, or do anything. What about that 2 year old princess who needs mommy RIGHT NOW!! She loves to sing…but it has to be loud, and she will always let you know when she isn't happy…but you just smile and think of what a blessing these children are from God and keep on going!

smile

"Supper will be quick, easy and healthy." Sounds good…now when will the chef arrive? 🙂 I try, I do. But some days it is so nice to have something to throw in the microwave, and the kids don't really care. At least I don't think they do!

"Bedtime will be at 8:30 pm with everyone in their own bed and no problems." Yep…that is a nice dream. We have used EVERYTHING to make this happen…there is the routine, the baths, books, etc. Not happening here. Strong willed children don't really care what you do. We used co-sleeping with the kids when they were young (Don't judge me, I won't judge you. It worked for us, period.) Now, to break the co-sleeping habit. That did take awhile and Ray Ray just finally realized he sleeps better on his own. Little Miss…we are working on it. But really, now how do we get this whole 8:30 thing to work???

Now, just because I show you the cute pictures, don't think we have a "perfect" day, just know that we are perfect for God and each other and that makes us happy!!!
