Star Chronicles: A Bible-Based Study of the Stars

Star Chronicles

The stars above us have a lot of stories and history. Those same stars that we look at today have been looked at by many people throughout history. There are many different "stories" about those stars, but as a Catholic family, we like to look at more biblical reasons behind things. Dawnita Fogleman has written the perfect study for our family when she wrote Star Chronicles: A Bible-Based Study of the Stars.

First of all, Dawnita wants you to know that this book is NOT a book of zodiac, astrology or horoscopes. She does not include that in here at all, so there is no worry about trying to have your children skip over a section and still be able to follow along with the study. Dawnita did add some references to myths and legends, but she clearly stated these as that and are used for historical purposes only.

Really, not much more is needed with this study!! You can purchase Star Chronicles: A Bible-Based Study of the Stars from CreateSpace for $25 or the PDF version straight from Dawnita for $12. This unit study is a good family program. You can adjust all the information and pages to work for all ages. Ray Ray (5 1/2) and Little Miss (2) loved the coloring pages as much as Moe Man (13).  And with those coloring pages, you can read about the stars/constellations while the kids are coloring and do a double duty 🙂 Now, you are able to adjust this program to truly work for your family. You can do weekly studies, or monthly studies.

The first thing I did when I received this program was to print it up and put it in a three ring folder. I read a few pages out loud and ended up losing the folder to Moe Man. He wanted to keep reading when I stopped, and I don't argue with that at all!  He would read about a constellation, than ask me questions that he had. We would work together to investigate further using the internet or our bibles depending on the questions. After he understood those questions, I would have him help me explain to the littles. He loved this the most! As much as we wanted to, we weren't able to actually get out and look at the stars much…but do have plans to extend this study through the summer!

My opinion? I loved this…and I haven't used it all yet. I liked being able to read a little while the kids were coloring and see them take it in. I loved when Moe Man asked questions to dig deeper because he doesn't do that. And I loved seeing him help teach his younger siblings because it was something he enjoyed. Finding the bible verses that go along with the constellation actually made it more interesting in my opinion. When I would read these, Moe Man would change the way he was coloring…later he actually didn't start coloring until he heard the bible descriptions.

Who do I recommend this for? Anyone who is reading this! Dawnita has this set up so that it is an easy go to it study. Do you need something for the next 13 weeks, or do you need it to last a year? Either way, this works for that!
