My Beloved and My Friend ~ Book Review

MBMF

Every girl dreams of being married to her best friend for the rest of her life. That one person you can share everything with and be the most comfortable around. But what happens when life takes over and everyone gets "too busy" for each other? That is where this books comes into play!

(I was given a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Below you will find just that. I was not required to write a positive review, I just did what I wanted to do!)

My Beloved and My Friend: How to be Married to your Best Friend Without Changing Spouses can be pre-ordered here for $12. And for that price, you can't go wrong!

Hal and Melanie Young have been married for almost 30 years and are still in love! Who better to get advice from! This advice ranges from "Leaving and Cleaving" all the way to "How to Fight so You Both Win", and who couldn't use that bit of information?!

I have been married to my best friend for the last 8 and half years. We were friends for at least 3 years before that. We have been through ups and downs and sickness and health. I love him as much today as I did 8 and half years ago on our wedding day, but this book still helped me with things I didn't even know I should be focused on. I really loved the help Hal and Melanie gave when it comes to temptations, (which is not just what you think either!)  "The Five Finger Fist to Fight Temptation". They have used this for themselves and to help their children fight temptations also. This is something I remember on a daily basis, and I am teaching our kids too!

I would recommend this book to everyone! When I say everyone, I mean, those who are still dating and not yet married, all the way up to those couples who have been married 30+ years and want to re-ignite their friendship with their spouse and best friend.

The Homemaker’s Mentor: Review and Giveaway

The Homemakers Mentor

(I received a free copy of this product in return for an honest review. Below you will read that honest review. I am not getting paid to write anything nice, that is all just me!)

What stay at home mom doesn't want to be a "homemaker"? I know I would love to have the perfect everything at home for my family. However…somewhere down the line I just got lost. I knew what I wanted, but didn't know how to get it. Well, after being invited to try the Homemaker's Mentor, I think I found it.

This cd is filled with over 110 "lessons" for any age. Martha Green and Rebekah Wilson spent four years putting all these wonderful files together for "normal" wanna-be homemakers like myself! These lessons are about everything!! They have some good recipes, and tricks to keep your house clean. Who wouldn't want a spa like bathroom or a mater bedroom retreat? Not to mention some really awesome stories that are really awesome to read aloud to the kids!

I loved the tricks for the kitchen. And it is true…besides our living room, we spend most of our time in the kitchen, so why shouldn't it be nice and clean? We have the fun cabinets that sit low off the ceiling so you can "decorate" them with pretty little things. Well, the only problem with that is that dust loves to collect up there. Working your way around your kitchen is broken down into different lessons for you to make your kitchen a nice comfortable spot to hang out.

My other favorite lesson was the one called "Mom and the Medicine Cabinet". It was a perfect lesson to work on with the kids with the cold and flu season on its way. Teaching the kids about how you can get the cold and the different stages of the cold were making the kids think more about what they were doing. Talk about a good health lesson! Not only did we learn about the cold, we were also able to learn about treat the colds…including the right way to blow our noses 🙂

Now, I just couldn't let you get interested in something like this and leave you hanging, could I? First, if you want your own copy of this wonderful cd, all you need to do is head over here and order one 🙂 They are selling for $37 with free shipping until the end of October. After that, the price will go up to $47. Want to win one? I have the chance to give away TWO of the cds (if you are outside of the US, you can get the zip files to download for your prize). Not only that, but there is a large giveaway going on until the 18th of October. You can win all the items pictured below by going right here.

Time4Writing Final Review

Time4Writing Review

Well, we are in the middle of summer. What a busy time this has been!! I can't believe how fast it has gone by. Right now in the house we are working on a solar system unit with all ages. We just got over that nasty head cold and now Little Miss is working on getting her two year molars!! How does a mommy get anything done??

When it came to helping Big Kid with his writing, I cheated during all of this. I used Time4Writing.com. It was so nice to have someone else telling him what to change, or keep the same about his writing. I would have to say this was my favorite  thing about the whole program. He knew that I wouldn't be the one grading him, so he slowed down a bit more. I also stepped back from helping him as he got half way through this program. Big Kid wasn't too thrilled the first time he got an email back telling him he had to re-do half the assignment, but I knew that I was helping too much.

The teachers of this program were wonderful. Within 24 hours we would have his written assignments graded and ready for us to review. When he had a hard time focusing and had a lower grade, he was given a second chance. I love second chances! When I noticed him having a hard time, or getting a re-do, we would sit down together and go over the lesson and make the corrections that were needed.

Another thing we found during our second half of using T4W was the videos!! Big Kid did his own orientation, so I didn't know there were videos, but I love those! Big Kid likes to read, but if something is "boring" he skips. When he listened to the videos, I noticed he got a better score on the assignments. Those quick little videos were our life savers!

Big Kid loved that the program was "easy". Not the writing itself, but the using of the program. He was able to get on the site and know what to do.  There wasn't a lot of extras to get in the way, but still enough to keep him interested.

We did the basic mechanics program, so there wasn't much for the "creative writing" side of things. But I am not complaining about that. We are still working on pulling that out of Big Kid. We did a lot of looking for errors in the sentences and correcting them, or adding the missing part of each sentence.

My biggest dislike of the whole thing is the price. It is $99 for the eight week course, which isn't bad considering you have a teacher helping you at home, but I can't see fitting that into our budget right now. Besides that, I really don't have anything to complain about!

Big Kid said it was hard, yes after he said it was easy. This is where I asked for clarification, and found out that the website is easy, the course itself made him think. Do I find that as a downfall to the program? NO! Does he feel that way during the summer months? Yes, as any 12 year old boy would 🙂

Other than it being "hard", we had no other complaints from Big Kid either. What a wonderful thing considering he doesn't like to write and I made him do that over the summer!

I was happy about using this program and glad we were given the chance to! Have you tried Time4Writing? What are your thoughts about the program? I would love to hear them!

Time4Writing Midcourse Review

Time4Writing

I can't believe we are at the four week mark in our Time4Writing experience! Big Kid is enjoying to a degree…but he is a struggling writer and I am making him do this over the summer vacation, so I can see where that is coming from.

I sat down with Big Kid and we talked about what we did and didn't like about this program. Here is what we have come up with so far.

Pros

  • The set up is easy to understand. Once we watched the introduction video, we both knew what we needed to do to check everything out.
  • The assignment directions are just as easy to understand.
  • Even thought the directions are easy, the assignments themselves are challenging to the right degree. They are not too hard, and not super easy either.
  • The teacher was very friendly and helped Big Kid when he would turn in assignments without me knowing.
  • The emails are sent to my inbox, so I am able to keep an eye on when he should be moving on to the next section or if he needs more practice.
  • The lessons don't take too much time. I really appreciate this since we signed up for our course over the summer months. It doesn't take Big Kid that long at all if he actually focuses on it and if I have him do it before he gets involved in something else for the day.

Cons

  • To log out, Big Kid is constantly searching for the button. I have to keep reminding him where it is because it is too small and doesn't really stand out.
  • The price for this program is $99 for an eight week course. This isn't really an outrageous price, but for those on a tight budget, this is a price that is hard to find room for sometimes.

As you can tell, at this point in our course both Big Kid and I really have more pros than cons when it comes to this program. I am looking forward to see how the second half of this course works for us! I will let you know how we do when we finish. Keep an eye out for my post in about 4 weeks!

Lilla Rose Review and GIVEAWAY!!

For those of you who know me, I always have my hair up in a pony of some sort. I have long hair, and everyone in the house loves it, I just don’t know what to do with it most days. When I was asked by Heather, a consultant with Lilla Rose, to do a review on their Flexi-Clips, I figured I would give it a try. I wasn’t expecting myself to fall in love with them. I have my hands full with three kids and homeschooling them, who has time to do something fancy with their hair? Well, now I do!!

Package

I got my package in the mail and fell in love before I even laid eyes on the actual clips. They came in a really fancy envelope, and I was thrilled to see how well made they were. Like I said, I have three kids, my youngest being a girl and only two. She loves to play with my hair things. I was worried she may break my new Flexi-Clips, but they can withstand her, so I have no more worries about their durability!

LillaRose

These beautiful clips are just as easy to put in as an elastic band and they look 100 times better! I have a few different sizes, even one for Little Miss. I am able to pull my hair back in a pony, or put it in a tails up. I have tried the half up, but that just isn’t my personal style. Not only are these clips easy to put in and look beautiful while in, they stay in too (as long as you use the right size for the style you are doing!). They are not uncomfortable at all and I actually forget that I have them in until someone comments on it, or it is time for bed.

Lilla Rose 2

I am so glad I was able to try these beautiful clips out! I love being able to still wear my hair how I always do and look a little fancier in the process.

Now, you get to have a chance to try one of these clips also! Heather is going to give a Flexi-Clip (worth up to $16) away to one of my lovely readers! All you have to do is go to her site for Lilla Rose and find your favorite. Than comment below which you would choose. One lucky reader will be chosen at random on Wednesday May 22, 2013 at Noon Central time.

I received my Flexi-Clip for free in exchange for a review and/or giveaway post. All opinions in this post are solely my own and were not influenced in any way.
